Future-proof teaching in the age of generative AI

The benefits and risks of generative AI systems like ChatGPT and Midjourney for universities, businesses, and society are currently being discussed in many places. In the "Strategic Leadership" major, students learn to use artificial intelligence to tackle their tasks in various course formats. This ranges from concrete introduction to the use of tools like ChatGPT or Claude in the process of academic writing to specific practice-relevant problem-solving in bachelor's and master's theses. Through this critical engagement with generative AI, it becomes possible to use it in a reflective, adequate, and beneficial manner.

In a complex, disruptive world, leaders, teachers, and students must deal with new challenges and technologies such as generative AI. Our research aims to examine existing teaching formats and learning methods for their suitability in the digital age. We want to understand what competencies leaders need and how students can acquire these competencies. We are pleased that the press is reporting on our research.

With our work in this area, we want to contribute to a better understanding of what competencies leaders need in a digitally shaped environment and how they can acquire them. From our experience so far, it is clear that on the one hand, it's about reducing fears, and on the other hand, about tempering excessive euphoria. While generative AI can take over or simplify many tasks of leaders, it by no means replaces critical engagement with open-to-interpretation, complex situations and a reflective approach in leading people and companies.
