Educating the Physicians of Tomorrow

Mag. Dr. Eleni Priglinger has held a tenure-track professorship position focusing on Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine since March 1. To mark International Women's Day, we spoke with her about her activities.

What is your tenure track professorship about?
Mag. Dr. Eleni Priglinger: The tenure-track position at the JKU is in the field of Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, focusing on research and teaching on stem cells, biomaterials, 3D bioprinting, bioreactors, and finding new regenerative approaches to treat musculoskeletal diseases. The goal is to apply interdisciplinary approaches and drive advancements in these technologies' clinical application forward.

Why did you apply for this position?
Mag. Dr. Eleni Priglinger: I applied because the JKU offers an ideal environment to expand on my expertise in regenerative medicine, especially given the JKU's outstanding interdisciplinary direction and its focus on applied research and education. I welcome an opportunity to continue my clinically-relevant research in an innovative environment; it’s an exciting challenge with tremendous potential to develop new treatments. I also look forward to educating tomorrow's physicians and introducing them to recent scientific findings and cutting-edge technologies that will actively impact medical care.

What do you hope to accomplish?
Mag. Dr. Eleni Priglinger: I would like to pursue regenerative approaches in medicine and create clinically applicable solutions that will not only improve a patient’s quality of life, but will also make positive, lasting changes, especially when it comes to treating various diseases. In addition to conducting research, educating students and junior researchers to prepare them to meet the challenges facing medicine in the future is important to me.
