We live in a democracy - but what does that even mean? Just what is the collective "we"?

Upper Austrian puppeteer Andreas Pfaffenberger addresses these and other questions as part of his play, "WIR! A Solo Show", set to premiere at the JKU’s Circus of Knowledge on March 9, beginning at 4:00 PM. The Wels-born puppeteer and thespian, Andreas Pfaffenberger, has joined forces with director Martina Winkel to produce a new in-house performance. Pfaffenberger and Winkel have already teamed up to create several important productions at the Circus of Knowledge, including "MondTraum & PlanetenKlang", the highly successful performance about the life and times of astronomer Johannes Kepler. The duo has once again created a new and highly contemporary theatrical production at the JKU.

"WIR! A Solo Show" explores the history of democracy: Where does this form of coexistence that promises to give us all the same rights come from - and is this really the case? How do we want to co-exist? Who is in charge?

As the performers and audience explore the background stories behind these questions, the audience will encounter people and experiences spanning all epochs, ranging from Ancient Greece and the French Revolution, to what brought about the country we live in today. And we discover one thing above all: We have to constantly reinvent and redefine who we are.

A democratic society will always need heroes and heroines who take a stand, fight for the cause, and will continue to do so in the future. This is a subject that could not be timelier.
