Program Overview
This is the preliminary program for the Young Kepler University on Saturday November 16, 2024. The program will be continuously updated, especially to include new classes. Sign up for individual workshops beginning October 8 at 10:00 AM; sign up individually for each child and each workshop. Unless otherwise indicated, all workshops take place at the JKU Campus (Altenberger Straße 69, 4040 Linz).

A Magic Workshop: Magician Maguel will show you how to perform impressive magic tricks with little effort and no need for expensive props! Using rubber bands, coins, and drinking glasses, you can create a performance to amaze your family and friends!
Even You Can Do Arts & Crafts
Create amazing handmade paper models and other wonderful items using just your hands and paper! This workshop is ideal for anyone who loves arts & crafts, or would like to learn more about crafting!
Improv Theater
Do you love telling stories? Then you've come to the right place because when it comes to improv theater, there's no wrong way, right way, or rules! What we do have is plenty of space to be creative, and a safe space to not only test your ideas and the endless possibilities, but get out of your comfort zone. Naturally, at your own pace and with no pressure!
In a fun, playful way, you learn how to tell a story and take on different roles. We will also create and practice different scenes together. Along the way, we will learn how to work together in a respectful way and react spontaneously to new situations we encounter daily. So, join in and have fun while you play!
Discover your Superpowers - What Makes Kids Strong?
Do you often feel tired and listless? Or perhaps a bit stressed out? It's a good thing that kids have a superpower that is known as resilience! Resilience is the ability to deal with difficult situations. Each child has this ability, even you! This workshop focuses on harnessing your inner strength and resolve to get through life better and with greater confidence. This is particularly helpful when it comes to taking tests because you are a superhero, too: just like Pippi Longstocking or Superman!
Beatboxing - Turning Vowels and Speech into Music
Make music yourself, but without any instruments! Learn how to make music using sounds and expressions and become a beatbox instrument yourself. You decide what kinds of noises, sounds and rhythms you want mimic because YOU are the music!
Use "Scratch" to Create Your First Computer Game
Would you be interested in creating your own computer game but you aren’t sure how and you don’t really understand programming? No problem! As part of this workshop, you will learn how to create your first computer game using the Scratch, a graphic programming platform! We'll start with the basics and step-by-step, we’ll work our way step toward more complex challenges and create a complete game. Afterwards, you'll get information and instructions on how to continue working on your game ideas at home and turn them into reality in just a short period of time.
Create Your Own Company
Does running your own company sound like fun? Why not give it a try! First, you'll learn a few important things about starting a business, such as the 4Ps of marketing. Then you will create a product, think about how much it should cost, and where you could sell it. At the end, you will create your own commercial to show your parents. Would they buy your product? It will be interesting to find out!
Frame It - Capture Your Scenes
Discover the world through your camera lens! A photography workshop for children and teens encourages you to explore the art of photography. You can use a smartphone or a camera and learn how to best capture your subjects. You'll learn how to get the best out of your camera, ranging from the right composition technique to posing your subjects. Dive into the fascinating world of photography and discover how you can use images to express your personal point of view!
Smile, Please! What you need to know when sharing photos and videos, and what the copyright has to do with it
Sharing a story quickly on Instagram or forwarding a Google photo.... Are you even allowed to? Who owns the copyright, who owns the photo? Learn more about how and which images and videos you can use, and what you need to bear in mind, even if these are photos of your friends or family members.
Be Careful - it's Old: What Museums Need to Bear in Mind When Displaying Exhibitions
Museums come alive thanks to the objects that are on display. But how can we protect these often very old and ancient objects? How do you transport them and what happens if they get damaged? This workshop addresses these and other questions, such as: Can we put anything we want on display? And what if the items had been stolen, such as during the Nazi era?
We'll look at certain objects in the Sarsteiner Collection at the Bad Ischl Museum and follow in the footsteps of a real museum director as we explore these questions and more!

Anyone can do First Aid! Learn life-saving First Aid techniques with the Samaritan Association and the Red Cross Linz!
Math: The Intriguing Permutation Game
Math is more than just numbers: It's about understanding connections. And sometimes numbers aren't enough and we need other methods. For example: take 'permutations'. Does it sound complicated? It's less complicated than you think and this workshop is an opportunity to learn more and how to work with permutations!
Cyberbullying: Not only no fun, but strictly forbidden!
Have you ever been insulted or bullied on social media? Or maybe even done it yourself? Unfortunately, this happens all too often. But it’s not just harmless teasing - it’s a criminal offense! In this workshop, you will learn all about the cyberbullying laws outlined in Austrian legislation. You'll get a clear understanding of what cyberbullying is, when insults cross the line and become punishable under criminal law. Through brainstorming and group work, we will explore this important topic, using many real-life examples and cases to make it more tangible. We’ll also address offline bullying because one thing is certain: bullying is no joke!
AEC: Take a Look into the Future!
Have you ever dared to take a peek into your future? At the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, you can take a guided tour through the Museum of Art, Technology & Society. Here, efforts are made to glimpse into the future and anticipate what the digital revolution might still bring upon us. For half an hour, you'll immerse yourself in "Deep Space 8K", experiencing a massive 16 by 9-meter wall and floor projection, laser tracking, and 3D animations. This unique experience can only be found here in the world.
Bridging Cultures: Exploring Communication, Diversity and the English Language
With our native speaker Tobi, you will learn simple tips and tricks to get to know the English language and have a simple conversation. We also discuss other countries/other customs, prejudices about immigrants and the dynamics between immigrants and natives.
