“Dance of Cilia” explores the fascinating moving patterns of cilia, hair-like structures on cell surfaces which have been preserved over the course of evolution. They act as a mouth and stomach for many a microorganism, transport egg cells through fallopian tubes, and rid the lungs of any inhaled particles. By means of the (a) synchronicity of dancers and cilia beat frequencies, this unique dance-based performance expresses just how complex pulmonary movement is. We bring art and science together as we perform physiological processes, inviting the audience on an esthetic journey to the depths of the inner body and by projecting science related issues on the body.

Doris and Ilona Roth bring their individual areas of expertise together and join forces to create an extraordinary interdisciplinary performance. Doris Roth's pioneering research on the lungs serves as the foundation. Together with Ilona Roth, she transforms these findings into an aesthetically beautiful dance performance, accompanied by compositions of sound based on the actual sounds of cilia.
