This performance marks a pivotal milestone as part of the wider Cyber Body Systems project, an innovative initiative bringing scientific research and artistic expression together to examine how technology shapes and redefines the way humans approach and experience new realities.. The project is the outcome of a partnership and collaboration effort between artists, curators, and researchers based in Austria and Romania, working together through embodiment to better understand the process of how we make sense of our digital environment.
In partnership with the Institute of Business Informatics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU, Austria) and the National Dance Center (Bucharest, Romania), Cyber-Body Systems represents the continuation and extension of a research and artistic creative program launched three years ago at the Johannes Kepler University Linz — “Digital Sensemaking” (DIGI-Sense), as part of the Linz Institute of Technology.
Coordinated by Claudia Schnugg (Austria, initiator of DIGI-Sense) and Andrei Tudose (Romania, artistic director), Cyber-Body-Systems was initially created as a bilateral artistic residency program. Cyber-Body Systems features Austrian artist Daniela Brill, artists Raluca Ghiță and Cip Făcăeru, and neuroscientist Alexandra Sofonea, with tech support by technical advisors Sabin Șerban and Dan Făcăeru, along with Romanian sound expert Andrei Raicu. Cyber-Body Systems will publicly debut in Linz on September 4, beginning at 4:00 PM.
The performance will be followed by a discussion featuring the project team, inviting the audience to reflect on how perceptional changes - whether by means of changing sounds and temperatures or the medium through which we move and how digital layers are superimposed on the real world - affect how we perceive the world us.
The Cyber-Body-Systems is a work-in-progress, providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the research process and how we arrive at preliminary conclusions. Participants will have an opportunity to directly experience how technology and the human body can connect by means of a performance exploring the embodiment process within an increasingly digital environment. The artists and researchers involved in the project will also explore the impact that this research is having on both the artistic field and society as a whole, exploring topics that include everyday life, such a human-machine interaction, digital twins, and cyber-physical systems.
Cyber-Body Systems - a project by Marginal (a non-profit Romanian cultural organization) aims to support, foster, and build bridges between artists and various parties in other disciplines, focusing on humanities, and the implications of science and technology within socio-cultural structures.
