There is No State Without a Constitution

Barbara Novotny and John F. Kutil share insight into the current Circus of Knowledge production: “The Constitution - A Question of Its Constitution” (premiere: September 28, 2024)

Democracies require clearly defined rules and a consensus on fundamental issues regarding coexistence. A constitution is a document which the people draw up for themselves. Is the constitution binding? Who can amend the constitution and how? Can democratic constitutions hinder the formation of an authoritarian government? On the day after the Austrian national elections, the constitution will play a particularly important role. Who is authorized to govern and who determines a republic's political “personnel”? During the course of the evening, we will look at the concept of the Austrian Federal Constitution and discuss the constitution with reference to current political events.
