The JKU medSPACE is a lecture hall, laboratory, forum, and stage all rolled into one, giving faculty members a unique way to teach and understand medicine. Rather that viewing CT or MRI scans on a monitor, students can better understand the subject area by viewing these scans using cinematic rendering technology to view images as large, three-dimensional depictions on a 14x7 meter-size screen and in 8K resolution. Organs, blood vessels, muscles, tendons, etc. appear larger than life from all angles as razor-sharp, 3D objects and all of the related information can be displayed and hidden at the touch of a button.

Your "tour guide" is Franz Fellner, Professor of Virtual Morphology at the JKU. Prof. Fellner was instrumental in helping to develop the project and can provide you with completely new insight into the human body.

Developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab in partnership with Siemens Healthineers and the Johannes Kepler University Linz, last year the Virtual Anatomy project won a prestigious international award, the 2022 E&T Innovation Award for "Best Emerging Technology of the Year".
