In partnership with the Austrian Customs Office, the annual Customs and Foreign Trade Law Day took place at the JKU in November, focusing on three topics: Current trends in import VAT law, supply chain integrity to protect human rights, and climate protection. The latter focused in particular on trading emissions certificates, and the new tax tool "CBAM" (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).

In addition to tax consultants and representatives from the freight transport industry, many participants from the industrial sector as well as financial officials and judges from the Federal Fiscal Court attended. Professor Walter Summersberger (Institute for Financial Law, Tax Law, and Tax Policy) organized the conference together with the head of the institute, Professor Thomas Bieber, and remarked: "The enthusiastic discussions revealed a need to address recent developments in customs and foreign trade law."
