Together with Vera Tolazzi, Mathias Gartner, a PhD candidate in theoretical physics (Department of Many-Particle Systems, JKU), created an installation titled: "The Transparency of Randomness", bringing the world of mathematics together with art. The installation was on display at the Ars Electronica Festival two years ago as well as in Slovenia. Gartner explains: "The interactive installation, 'The Transparency of Randomness', illustrates the relevance of random numbers as part of current research areas, such as quantum mechanics and artificial intelligence, inviting visitors to generate a random number themselves in order to become part of the calculation that the installation carries out."

Gartner and Tolazzi were presented with the New Face Award in Japan in recognition of their outstanding work. The jury remarked: "It is a random number generator in which natural elements play a key role, illustrating the fundamental benefit and the importance of random numbers in the universe."
