Invitation to Kick-off symposium of "Spirits" project at 5th of April, 2024
Making kin with experimental music systems
Kick-off symposium for the FWF-PEEK project "Spirits in Complexity - Making kin with experimental music systems", a cooperation between the mdw (Artistic Research Center, Thomas Grill) and the Johannes Kepler University Linz (Institute of Computational Perception, Arthur Flexer).
In this artistic research project, musical partnerships between human performers and technologies as non-human performers are investigated using various methods.
We use the titular term "spirits" in a metaphorical sense to refer to an opaque complexity that characterizes human and non-human interaction in the artistic-creative context and that can take on explorative, negotiating, confrontational, ritual or spiritual forms.
The spectrum of technologies examined ranges from self-playing pianos and analog synthesizers to software instruments and generative artificial intelligence systems.
In the symposium, the cooperation partners will present perspectives into the complex of topics in scientific and artistic formats.
