Film Screening of "Verbotenes Begehren" – Milestones in Queer History.

Vienna 1919: Margarethe Csonka (Christina Cervenka), a young middle-class girl and a lesbian, is sent by her parents to Sigmund Freud (Karl Markovics). They want him to "cure" her of her "forbidden desire" towards a scandalous baroness and high-class prostitute. Gretl, however, fights for her love and misleads the psychiatrist. Freud concludes that homosexuality can neither be treated - nor does it need to be.

Following the film:
A discussion featuring director Fritz Kalteis (Feature Films) and Johann Kirchknopf (Center for Queer History Vienna), moderated by Elisabeth Greif (head of the JKU Institute for Legal Gender Studies).

The Institute for Legal Gender Studies & Department of Gender & Diversity Management. A partnership as part of Pride Month 2024.
